HolyheadTown Development & Regeneration StudyClient: Welsh Development Agency The commission included the appraisal of Holyhead town centre with a view to regenerating the town by means of development proposals and environmental improvements, and the resolving of traffic management problems. A pedestrian scheme and enhancement of recreational/leisure facilities has been designed to calm traffic and resolve parking problems. These proposals have now been implemented. The study consisted of a thorough appraisal of the existing physical environment and an audit of the landscape resources and features. From these findings, together with knowledge of public opinion gauged from detailed consultation with local residents, TACP prepared a comprehensive environmental improvement strategy. Recommendations were made for the management or improvement of public services and utilities, surface treatments, street furniture and a number of new landscape features were proposed. The village image and the management of traffic and car parking were especially sensitive issues. |
