TACP were commissioned to undertake a pilot scheme aimed at promoting environmental stewardship of farmland in Wales, within districts of Meirionydd, Dinefwr (excluding the Cambrian Mountains) and Swansea. The landscape assessment together with data collated from other studies is to be used to develop habitat, landscape and access strategies to act as a framework for assessing and agreeing whole farm plans.

The work examined both landform and the perception of the landscape within each pilot area and examine the delineation of space within the landscape and identify characteristic forms. A description and analysis was required specifying the main landscapes and the characteristics of each area.

The study has subsequently been employed as the basis for identification and implementation of specific projects.
