Parc Tawe

Tropical hot house, Swansea

Client: Swansea City Council

The Design of a Tropical Hot House containing a variety of climatic zones within a controlled environment suited to the needs of varying ecosystems. The planting was designed to fit internally within the configuration of the building with the Landscape Architects dictating the required environmental control needed to achieve the correct temperature, humidity, light penetration etc.

An elevated walkway is designed to take users from ground floor level via the various stratification of foliage. A water feature connects each zone emanating from a wet wall passing through a rill to an elevated pool and waterfall.

The Hot House sits at the centre of a large retail park development for which TACP executed the total landscape design. The scheme has won a number of prestigious awards including the Principal Award for Interior Landscape of the British Association of Landscape Industries, a Civic Trust Award and a Regional Award from the Royal Institute of British Architects.
