Pontypridd Inner Relief Road

Client: Mid-Glamorgan County Council

Urban design of a complex town-centre highway improvement scheme acting as a gateway to the Rhondda Valleys.

Landscape considerations included enhancement of views from the road, improvement of spatial quality, and careful integration of the road into a complex urban fabric within tight physical constraints. Treatments included creation of new streetscapes, paving, fencing, walling, planting and opportunity for art.

Associated urban renewal schemes have also been undertaken to link the relief road into other elements of the townscape and road network.
