Machynlleth Streetscape and Sculpture TrailFeasibility StudyClient: Wales Tourist Board, Powys County Council and Machynlleth Tabernacle Trust TACP were commissioned to undertake a study into the scope for and feasibility of a sculpture trail in the historic Mid-Wales town of Machynlleth. A streetscape survey and visual appraisal highlighted existing street furniture, works of art and features of architectural and historic interest. A strategy was developed around the theme of a Townscape Woven In Time - weaving has long been an important element of the town's social history and this theme provided a framework for sculpture and streetscape without being over prescriptive. The study then highlighted routes, sculpture sites and possible sculptors at the same time as developing details of appropriate street furniture. Proposals included guidance on suppliers of street furniture, management of the project and cost estimates for implementation. |
