Trainee Arb Surveyor / Graduate

TACP is seeking a motivated Trainee Arb Surveyor or Graduate to support the delivery of high-quality arboricultural advice across development, infrastructure, and land management projects.
Working under the guidance of a Principal Arboricultural Consultant, the successful candidate will assist in the surveying, assessment, and reporting of trees within planning and land-use contexts, gaining structured experience in consultancy-led arboriculture.
This is a development-focused role designed to support progression toward professional accreditation and Chartered status.

Proposed outline package
The successful applicant will support and progressively undertake:​

Tree Survey & Inspection
BS5837 tree surveys
Preliminary tree risk assessments
Tree condition assessments
Data capture using GPS / digital systems
Reporting
​Assisting with:
Technical reports
Planning responses
Mitigation strategies
Tree protection specifications
​
Site Work
Attending development sites
Supporting project monitoring
Assisting with compliance inspections
​
Planning & Development Support

Assisting with Arboricultural Impact Assessments (AIA)

Supporting Arboricultural Method Statements (AMS)
-
Tree Constraints Plans (TCP)
-
Root Protection Area interpretation
Woodland & Green Infrastructure

Supporting preparation of woodland management plans

Assisting with GI planning inputs

Site-based ecological awareness

Essential & Preferred Qualifications
Level 4/5 qualification or equivalent in:

Arboriculture, Forestry or Environmental Management (tree-related focus)

Full UK Driving Licence

Strong written communication skills
-
Interest in planning / development interface

Willingness to work outdoors in varied conditions
Desirable (but not essential)

GIS (ArcGIS) or OTISS familiarity

Basic CAD awareness

Knowledge of BS5837

Tree inspection experience

Understanding of planning systems

This opportunity will provide a competitive salary circa £25 -£30k (depending on experience), plus company pension and health insurance scheme, professional subscriptions paid, a 28-day holiday allowance (including bank holidays), plus 1 additional day per year up to 5 days, 2 volunteer days/year and the opportunity for career development within an established environmental consultancy including working with Landscape Architects, Ecologists and Environmental Planners.
